KLM – SUP cutlery

In recent years, sustainability has become a pressing issue and this of course also applies to aviation. KLM desires to play a leading role and has developed its ‘Fly Responsibly programme’, aimed at a sustainable future in and for aviation. In addition, the EU adopted the Single Use Plastics directive in 2019, which prohibits the use of single-use plastic cutlery.

Now New Next was asked to review the various options in the market for ‘SUP-proof’ cutlery.

 

Mission

 

  • Analysing the competition in view of their sustainability strategies
  • Mapping out various processes by visiting the catering unit and the current packaging supplier
  • Exploring the market for various options
  • Speed dates with 13 suppliers of disposables
  • Analysing possible options in collaboration with various experts

 

Deliver

All cutlery options were visualised in a ‘decision tree’, which also acts as a pre-LCA tool. Attached to this was a fully substantiated report of the entire research.
